The Council collects refuse (bins or black bags) weekly on Mondays, garden refuse (bins or bags, paid for service) fortnightly from February to November, and recycled materials (glass/metal and paper) fortnightly, alternating weeks betwwen garden refuse and recycled materials.
Birmingham City Council Bulk Refuse Collection
The City Council has found it necessary to introduce a collection charge for frequent users who require more than 3 household bulky collections (of up to 6 items per collection) in a calendar year. Please follow the link for details.But before you decide to get rid of anything, please consider if it can be reused. Ladywood Furniture Project (0121 455 7133), Community Transport (0121 773 2858) or Betel (0121 436 5562) will collect furniture that is in reasonable condition and offer it to people on low incomes, or you could try getting rid of it on your local Freecycle network. This can be done by phone (0121 303 1112), or on line. From July 2009 all visitors to Birmingham's Household Recycling Centres will be required to verbally provide their postcode to prove that they are Birmingham residents.
